Ancestor Report through six generations

The first of my ancestors to arrive in Whitley County, Indiana were the Goodrich and Joslin families, they came from Delaware County, Ohio in 1838 and settled in the portion of Troy Township that would later become a part of Richland Township. Abigail Goodrich, daughter of Bela, had married James Joslin thus uniting the two families. One of their sons married Lydia Robison in 1843. Lydia's parents were Henry and Anna Robison and they settled with their family in Columbia Township after 1840.

Lydia and Lysander Joslin would have 15 children together, 10 of whom survived into adulthood. One daughter, Malissa, would marry William Brubaker and remain in Whitley county while Lysander and Lydia and their other children moved out west to Iowa and Kansas and elsewhere.

William Brubaker, the illegitimate son of Sarah Foster and John Brubaker came from Perry County, Ohio to Whitley County with his mother and step-father, George Parkison about 1852. Sarah was the daughter of Benjamin and Margaret (Myers) Foster. Several of her siblings had come to Whitley County a few years earlier. One of George and Sarah's son, Jacob Parkison, married Roxie Joslin, Malissa's sister. Oh, what a tangled web we weave!

Charles Romain Brubaker, son of Malissa and William Brubaker, married Maude Catherine Wise in 1897. Maude's parents were William P. Wise and Sophia E. Dunfee. William's parents, Jacob and Malissa (Stem) Wise settled in Thorncreek township about 1852, near Malissa's parents Conrad and Indiana (Sisley) Stem.

Sophia E. Dunfee, daughter of William H. and Catherine (Jones) Dunfee, was born in Columbia City in 1850. William H. Dunfee came to Whitley County in 1847 while Catherine came in 1845 with her mother and siblings, her father having died in Muskingum County, Ohio two years before. Catherine's mother was Elizabeth Helms, daughter of Conrad and Mary (Swigart) Helms who came to Whitley County at the same time.

And yes, it is confusing with all the William's, Conrad's and Malissa's!
