Twenty-five of grandmother's ancestors lived in Whitley County, Indiana with several arriving as early as 1838. They came from Ohio: Champaign, Delaware, Holmes, Perry, Muskingum and Wayne counties. And before that from Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Vermont.

The last of grandpa Vic's ancestors to arrive in America were the Phend's. They came in 1832 from Switzerland with a stop off in Carroll County, Ohio before settling in Kosciusko County, Indiana in the 1850's. The Berlin, Huffmann, Rupert, Switzer and Yarian ancestors arrived in "the colonies" in the early 1700's and settled in York/Adams Counties in Pennsylvania and later into Ohio and Indiana.

Elsie Shuder (1886-1926)

Primary Surnames include: Lavering, Schuder, Shuder, and Stoever.

I never knew this grandmother. She died in a house fire when my father was only three years old. Her grandparents settled in Kosciusko and Elkhart Counties, Indiana about 1850. They came from Montgomery County, Ohio and Pennsylvania and before that "from across the pond" in the early 1700's.

Charles Wilson Wiseman (1886-1943)

Primary Surnames include: Alexander, Ball, Bray, Van Curen and Wiseman.

Grandpa Wiseman died before I was born, so I never knew him either. His great-grandfather was the last of his ancestors to come to America. They came in 1832 from Switzerland and settled in Switzerland County, Indiana. His father moved to Kosciusko County, Indiana in the 1880's.

The Bray's came from Hampshire County, Virginia to Nelson County, Kentucky finally settling in Switzerland County, Indiana by 1816. The Alexander's came from Cecil County, Maryland to Knox County, Ohio and then to Kosciusko County, Indiana before 1850. The Van Curen's came from Holland to New York before 1640; they arrived in Kosciusko County, Indiana by 1843.
